In my daily commute on the NYC subway I was an equal opportunity argurer.

Woman, man, pet owner, old, young? You’re irritating me! I’d spill my emotions in the subway car, on the platform, up the station stairs. I’m lucky that’s all I spilled. Such altercations can be foolhardy, even dangerous. I needed to find a way to stop. But how?

I found a phrase that injects compassion into my being — instantly.

The phrase is “This person is a child of God.”

My body shifts instantly changes when remember this phrase.

  • My shoulders loosen.
  • My eyes and ears open.
  • I’m able to breathe.

Try it!

This is not the only phrase that works!

In a free philosophy class, I was taught an equally powerful phrase.

“Whoever or whatever is in front of you is your teacher.”

This phrase opened me to wisdom. At other times I learned how NOT to behave! Rather than getting angry, I smiled inside.

Find a phrase that works for you!

You can invent your own phrase!

Here’s part of the recipe.

  • Value the person
  • Have empathy
  • Ask yourself or a higher person to love them

Add other ingredients to find your phrase.

It will shift your emotion from anger to compassion!

These phrases work everywhere!

Once you find your phrase, practice deploying it on demand.

Your 4th consecutive Zoom meeting. Arguing with your teenage daughter. Reading the comments in an online forum. Discover your phrase and summon it

You will make the world a better place!
